Transition Day– the annual event that allows 8th graders to experience a day at the high school– was a huge success. The day was full of activities to help introduce our future freshmen to the place that might seem intimidating at first but hopefully now seems more welcoming, as it will soon become full of fond memories as they transition into the next chapter of their academic careers.
Transition day wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated teachers and staff who made it happen. A big thank you to Mr. Edwards, Mrs. Carver, Mrs. Fujimoto, Mme Chust, and the administration for ensuring everything ran smoothly.
How the Day Unfolded
To pair 8th graders with mentors, students first filled out a form with questions based on their interests to match people with similar likings or common traits.
On the day of the event, groups of students explored the campus through a scavenger hunt, running up and down the stairs countless times, and following clues to find all the pieces of a lion puzzle. This activity gave the 8th graders an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the campus, meet some teachers, and ask questions to their mentors about classes and life at the high school.
Other activities were planned throughout the day, including club presentations from some of the main clubs at our school: MUN, Global Outreach, The ROAR, GSA/Debate, and Yearbook. This year’s presentations were arguably the most engaging and most efficient yet; so thank you to the fearless club leaders.
Of course, one of the perks was getting to enjoy In-N-Out during an extended lunch break – a well-earned treat after a morning of getting destroyed by the stairs. There were multiple reports of leg soreness after the scavenger hunt, but all was forgiven after sharing this delicious meal with new friends.
One of the notable highlights of the day was the Kahoot, made by Mme Boucat, filled with trivia questions on the Lycée and fun facts about some of our very own teachers. Do you know the name of Mme Clement’s cat? The competition was fierce, but the awesome group G.R.A.S. (which I may or may not have been a part of) took home 1st place, unexpectedly pulling ahead with the very last question! Truly the comeback of the century if you ask me.

When asked about their experience, high school mentors shared overwhelmingly positive feedback:
“I thought transition day went really well, the scavenger hunt was fun and honestly a little tiring, haha. I feel like the timing of everything went smoothly. Thank you to the faculty and Mr. Edwards, especially for the in-n-out 😋. Bonding with the 8th graders was the best part. They are all super nice. Can’t wait for them to be on campus next year!”
- Francesca Biasiolo, 11th grade
“My favorite parts were meeting two amazing upcoming ninth graders, and being able to become a resource they can use during their time at Lycée’s high school”
- Gwyneth Muir-Atkinson, 11th grade
“My career day was overall pretty successful! I think that the pairs were well done, and I personally got along really well with my mentee. I also think that the In-N-Out was a really good touch and should definitely be done on the next transition day too.”
- Lola Sultan, 11th grade
High schoolers and middle schoolers alike got to create new bonds and see the high school from a new perspective. An unforgettable day to get the incoming freshmen ready for an unforgettable high school experience!
