September 2025 was full of exciting surprises for Lycée students, especially with the
newly established “Spirit Night” that took place on September 24th and astonished both children and parents alike. This special day brought to light our spectacular two-time league champions: the girls’ volleyball team. If one word could describe this event, “spirit” would undoubtedly be the most appropriate, with most of the Lycée community uniting to witness the JV and Varsity volleyball teams compete against Pilibos. We owe a large part of this excitement to the 2024- 2025 Student Council and to the administration, who worked incredibly hard to solidify our school’s sense of community.
As spectators filed into the school to watch the game, many were drawn to the compelling aroma of the taco stands on the second floor. People had the opportunity to choose their own toppings and salsa, tailoring each one to the individual palette. Furthermore, Lycée merchandise was sold at a stand on the same floor, helping onlookers represent school pride during the game. Once people were settled, the games were then set to begin. The JV game commenced at 5:30PM in the school gym, but not before being preceded by our newly formed and effortlessly confident cheerleading team. As they performed, their new, catchy sequences captivated watchers and emanated enthusiasm. Lycée’s equally new mascot, Lenny the Lion, exacerbated the liveliness of the game and the performances. Urging audiences to cheer and chant, this mascot truly highlighted the school’s close-knit community.

The JV team fought all the way until the end, losing the last set by only a few points. Pilibos won 2-1. The game was incredibly tight, rendering every spectator utterly entranced as the ball flew around the court. The Varsity girls then followed at 7:00 PM, completely dominating the game from start to finish and ending the game 3-0. Francesca Biasiolo, captain of the Varsity Volleyball team, expressed her enthusiasm for the night: “As a volleyball player, seeing the crowd out there to support us was really motivating and brought up energy. Their enthusiasm led us to sweep the other team 3-0. It was a very memorable night for all of us, and it was lovely to have the whole lycée community by our side.” - Francesca Biasiolo
Overall, the entire night was a complete success, bringing families and students together to attend incredible volleyball matches that ended in different forms of triumph for Lycée. Though the Varsity girls won in points, both teams showcased the power of spirit and community within our school. This event clearly marks a shift from the traditional Lycée environment, and can be accredited to the administration and new student counsel leadership who pushed to solidify school spirit.
