Hello! Thank you for participating in this interview today. Firstly, what classes and grades do you teach? Do you have a favorite (in terms of material)?
I teach 8th-12th grades. The subjects are Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Statistics. Algebra II is my favorite class to teach.
How long have you been working at the Lycée?
This is my 3rd year at the Lycée and I am so grateful to be here. It’s a really special community.
What are your favorite ways to make math engaging for students?
I am a big believer in active learning. I am not always the best at planning engaging lessons because there is so much to cover in math that I often run out of time, but ideally, I would have more hands-on and active learning lessons.
I know that you are an avid reader. Are you reading anything at the moment?
I am currently reading “We All Live Here” by Jojo Moyes and “Pretty Girls” by Karin Slaughter.
What is your favorite book of all time?
My all time favorite book is “Rebecca” by Daphne DuMaurier.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to read, spend time in nature, and mostly just be with my family and dogs.
When did you realize that you wanted to be a teacher? What do you like about teaching?
I never thought I would be a teacher and had no interest. It’s a career that I sort of fell into and ended up loving. I love working with young people and helping in any way I can.
What time of day do you feel the most productive, if any?
I am definitely a morning person! Having to do anything past 6pm is basically torture.
Who would be your dream dinner guest, famous or not famous, dead or alive?
I’m not sure I could pick just one, but I would love another dinner with loved ones that I’ve lost throughout my life.
Tell me a fun fact about yourself!
I have a twin sister who is also a teacher.
What’s a quote or saying that resonates with you?
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” - Eleanor Roosevelt
Amazing! Thank you for your wonderful answers. It was a pleasure to speak with you, as always.
