Halloween Costumes

As October comes around, the big question never changes. It's always “What are you going to be this year?,” and we always wonder, “How many people will wear the same thing?” This year’s lineup of costumes feels like a mix of throwbacks, trends, and a few wildcards that will either be amazing or dubious. I’m predicting a creative range: insects like ladybugs and bumblebees might buzz their way back, and I’m not sure if the 2000s “animal” costumes with the fur hats and boots will make a reappearance, but hopefully they do. Halloween trends often swing between cute and creepy, so we might see a mix of both this year. Either way, it’s always fun to spot which nostalgic favorites come back to life.

A classic animal costume that I have seen for a few years now has been the deer costume, and I have a feeling it will be very popular this year. Personally I think this costume has made a comeback due to its makeup style and popularity on social media platforms. The face paint element creates a perfect balance between cute and whimsical. It’s also flexible, letting people lean on the spooky side depending on their style. On top of that, it works great for groups, where friends can create coordinated forest-inspired looks.

Another costume idea that has made its way back into trends is Fancy Nancy. Recently there have been Fancy Nancy dress up parties, and it might return to the halloween costume rotation. With the frilly dresses, bright colors, and playful accessories, it’s easy to see why this costume appeals to anyone looking for a bold and fun look. It is also a great costume for people with way too many accessories in their closets.

A classic swan costume from Natalie Portman's Black Swan offers two options: either a calm white swan, or a dark and spooky black swan. These costumes can also be worn by two people and can be done with a friend as a duo costume.

I'm predicting the reappearance of clown costumes, and I think they will be popular because they range from scary to classic, and even pop culture, as seen with pop-artist Chappel Roan’s clown themed stage outfits. With so many ways to customize wigs and outfits, clowns offer creative freedom for anyone willing to bring the style back.

Superhero energy never really dies. So, I expect many Superman costumes this year, especially
because of the recent Superman movie. The iconic cape and emblem make it instantly
recognizable, which is always a win for Halloween. Most of all, it’s a classic and on trend for
everyone of all ages and genders.

Since costumes typically offer more than one type of costume with that specific theme. I think
group costumes will be more common this year than ever with different themes like Monster
High, Clash Royale, Fight Club, Ninja Turtles, Avatar the Last Airbender, and Kpop Demon
Hunters for the younger demographic.

Honorary mentions include Hamilton, Kill Bill, or even Patrick Bateman for anyone feeling
adventurous. I’m excited to see what this year's Halloween will bring us!
